February is National Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and the importance of cardiovascular care. At Lower Bucks Hospital, we are committed to serving patients across the suburbs of Philadelphia, providing specialized heart services and a comprehensive cardiac catheterization program. This article aims to inform you about the resources available to you or your loved ones as you navigate heart health challenges.
Comprehensive Heart Services
Our Cardiac Care Program is designed to support patients with various heart conditions, particularly those suffering from heart failure or congestive heart failure (CHF). We take a holistic approach that combines lifestyle changes with advanced treatments. Our goal is to manage not only heart failure but also related conditions like diabetes and hypertension, ensuring a comprehensive care experience.
Key Features of Our Cardiac Care Program:
- Personalized Care Journey: Each patient's journey often begins with essential heart tests that help us understand symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain. These assessments are crucial for accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
- Interventions and Procedures: Following diagnosis, we offer a range of interventions, including standard surgical procedures, aimed at improving your quality of life.
At Lower Bucks Hospital, we focus on medication management, preventive measures, and interventions that enhance the overall well-being of our heart failure patients. We strive to minimize hospitalizations and readmissions, ensuring a better quality of life.
Preventive Care: Leading the Way
Dr. Shahzad Ahmed, our board-certified specialist in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology, spearheads our preventive care initiatives. His expertise enables us to help patients identify cardiovascular risk factors and implement strategies to prevent serious conditions. This proactive approach is essential for long-term heart health.
Services Provided:
- Preventive Cardiology: Assessing risk factors early
- Non-Invasive Treatments: Offering less invasive solutions for heart conditions
- Patient Education: Empowering patients with knowledge about cardiovascular disease
Advanced Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Located on the first floor of Lower Bucks Hospital, our Cardiac Catheterization Lab is equipped for routine procedures. Cardiac catheterization involves threading a thin tube through an artery to assess heart function and blood supply. This minimally invasive procedure is essential for both diagnostic and therapeutic measures.
Common Procedures:
- Angiography: High-quality imaging of the heart and coronary arteries
- Biopsies: Tissues samples to diagnose heart disease
- Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting: Techniques to widen blocked arteries and restore blood flow
Patients usually experience minimal discomfort during catheterization and are kept informed throughout the process. Depending on the findings, further treatments or surgery may be recommended.
Specialized Care for Common Conditions
Our Cardiac Care Program addresses a wide spectrum of heart-related conditions, ensuring tailored treatment plans for each patient.
- Atrial Fibrillation: A common irregular heartbeat that may require monitoring or treatment.
- Acute Coronary Syndrome: Encompasses heart attacks and unstable chest pain with tailored management approaches.
- Heart Failure: A chronic condition requiring ongoing care to ensure the heart efficiently meets the body’s demands.
- Cardiac Diagnostic Testing: A suite of tests to diagnose the causes of symptoms effectively.
Additional Treatments Offered
- Cardioversion: A procedure for restoring normal heart rhythm in patients with rapid heart rates.
- Permanent Pacemakers: Devices implanted to regulate heartbeats.
