Alberto Poblano is a trained engineer with a degree in aeronautics and at one time lived in Mexico City and worked for Mexican Airlines. Now he does custom framing at his shop A&J Picture Framing in New Britain. Alberto said, “One day my girlfriend, who later I married, wanted to have a picture framed. So we went to a do-it-yourself frame shop. It was so easy that I thought to myself, ‘I can do this.’” So Alberto taught himself and began doing some framing for his family and friends.
In 1991 Alberto moved to the United States and found a job in New Jersey at the Newark airport. He commented, “That was a two-hour commute each way for me, but it was a good-paying job and I had a family to care for.” On his daily commute, he went past the John Knoll framing business on 202 in New Britain in Bucks County. He thought that if he worked there, he wouldn’t have to spend so much time traveling to work.
Since he wanted to work closer to home, he often checked the classified section of the newspaper for jobs. “I saw that the Knoll Company was looking for help. One day I stopped in. John was so proud of his operation that he showed me all around.” Alberto began working at Knoll part time. He also found a job at the Philadelphia airport.
