Olivia's bridge Street Inn
by Patti Guthrie
Neatly tucked between the canal and an established restaurant in New Hope is Olivia’s Bridge Street Inn, a small B&B with eight distinctly different guest rooms. Named for owners James and Celeste Manitta’s young daughter, the Inn opened in April 2011 and already has garnered a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.
The brick half of the structure was built in 1817 by William Maris, one of New Hope’s founders. It always had been a private home until the Manittas purchased it in 2006. The original house faced the canal, with the main entrance on that side. James and Celeste knew they had to double its size for their planned inn. In 2010 they had the addition built. However, because they were not permitted to disturb the original structure, the new section abuts the brick part. Looking at the attention to detail both inside and out, it’s difficult to realize the addition is so recent.
“The original house is a true town home with a large living room and a formal dining room. There are fourteen-foot ceilings throughout and fireplaces in all of the main rooms on the first and second floors, all of which we’ve had converted to gas.” Celeste said,, “The original kitchen was downstairs with a walk-in fireplace and beehive bake oven. We were able to keep both of them when we renovated the space into one of our guest rooms.”
