Canal Music Studios cut the ribbon earlier this month and opened its doors with local business leaders, township officials, students, teachers, and donors in attendance. Cutting the ribbon with Founder Adrienne Walsh was Board President of the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, David DeFreese and donor Dr. Rajani Walsh. An informative tour and refreshments immediately followed with live music on the violin by the school’s former student and 2022 Jim Hamilton scholarship winner Coco Smith.
Canal Music Studios, located initially in Lambertville, NJ, moved to the new Stockton location on 16 Bridge Street in response to Hurricane Ida and the devastating flooding. The new Stockton, NJ, location is approximately 2,000 square feet, offering an array of in-house, state-of-the-art instruments from piano to drums, and is ideally situated in the tranquil borough of Stockton. With its new home, the organization will offer more classes, more space, and new programming. Future students of all ages are encouraged to visit the new facility.
Stockton Mayor Aaron Lipson stated: “We welcome Canal Music Studios to the borough of Stockton. Adrienne has already become an important part of the Stockton community, and we look forward to how their school will add to the vibrancy of our borough. We have a long and significant history of celebrating music and musicians in Stockton, and having the studio open just feet from Rogers and Hart’s “small hotel with a wishing well” is a great way to continue that tradition. We’re thrilled that Canal Music Studios will continue to train musicians who contribute to the artistic landscape of our area.”
Canal Music Studios programming will include in-person and virtual options for summer camps, private lessons for all ages, group classes in music theory and composition, master classes, instrumental group classes for ages 8 – 85+, Chamber Music, and Jazz/Rock Ensembles and Workshops.
