David John
David John’s father began making lanterns in 1946. David John, a civil engineer by education left engineering because he liked doing things with his hands. He took over his father’s shop and runs the store as David John, Metal Artisan. He has an elaborate workshop on the premises where he makes handcrafted period lanterns and post lights. He also is a dealer for architectural metalwork and antique lighting. He is especially know for his copper lanterns which can be seen complimenting homes, businesses, campuses and towns throughout the United States. Each lantern, with a meticulous attention to detail, is handmade by David John and his team from over one hundred copper pieces that are hand-cut, molded, soldered, and custom finished. The corners of each lantern are constructed of multiple pieces for strength and durability. All glass is double thick and placed into channels that provide easy access to the glass for cleaning or replacement. The lanterns can be enjoyed with you choice of electrification, with one or more electric candles, chimney, or simulated gas burner.
