The Lions Pride Park Campaign Committee is pleased to announce the completion of its capital campaign to build the park. Over $2,050,000 was raised from over 200 donors including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. Lions Pride Park is a 17-acre, state of the art, recreational, educational and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant park located in Warrington Township.
The park is a partnership between Warrington Township and the Warrington Township Lions Club. Club members Jim Furlong and Janice DeVito started the project in 2015 when they approached township officials Shirley Yannich and Barry Luber about making a legacy contribution of $180,000 to Warrington Township in celebration of the club's 75th anniversary. Their idea of a public park worked well with the needs of the township. In recognition of Warrington Township Lions Club’s generous gift and the time and effort the club invested planning and fundraising, the park was named in its honor.
The Lindy Family/Lindy Property Management are the largest donors for this project and two features of the park are named for them: Lindy Communities Kids Mountain and the Lindy Community Center. Other major donors to the park include, the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the North Wales Water Authority, Andrew's Friends Fund, and Toll Brothers. The Toll Brothers Grove, an area for relaxing, playing games, and picnicking within the park, is named in honor of their gift.
Accessible features of the park include Lindy Communities Kids Mountain, a walking trail around the park that connects to other Township walking paths, as well as a smart phone beacon app that will allow people who are blind or have low vision to learn about features of the park and navigate through the site. Committee members also reached out to Roseann Schaaf, Ph.D., an internationally recognized occupational therapy researcher, for feedback on making the park’s play equipment fully accessible. Schaff felt that the equipment needed allow both children and adults to have enriched sensory motor experiences. As a result of Dr. Schaaf’s feedback, the play equipment that was selected is able to be utilized by people of all ages and abilities and is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
Now that the capital campaign is complete, a new group called “The Friends of Lions Pride Park" will take the place of the Lions Pride Park Campaign Committee. The Friends of Lions Pride Park will support the park in various ways now and into the future. This group is open to anyone who wants to
help the park continue to be a fun and inclusive space where members of the community and their
families can create happy memories. Those interested in joining the Friends of Lions Pride Park should contact Kathy Beveridge, President, Warrington Township Lions Club at kathy@sparknpc.com.
