Sound Investments
Rob Bain was only seven years old when he began guitar lessons in Englewood, New Jersey. In no time he got together with a few other budding musicians and formed the Miniature Beatles. This group would open for politicians who were speaking and played at local affairs, when Time magazine became interested in them and wrote an article about them. They actually looked like miniature Beatles, having long hair and the British Mod look. Rob also got to meet the Beatles when they played at Shea Stadium in 1965.
Rob played music all through high school and college. Friends of his made it big in the music world. One friend at age 16 was playing Madison Garden with Johnny Winter and another friend had a number one hit of his own. Rob, himself, while in college played with a guitar player from Bob Marley’s band.
Rob later began to collect guitars. This collection expanded and began to include all instruments. His first interest was in vintage instruments, but that expanded too—into a business. In 1995 he started Sound Investments LLC, which has since been buying all types of musical instruments from owners who no longer used them. His motto is “We put instruments into the hands of people who play them.”
Sound Investments also donates musical instruments to needy schools ($30,000 last year alone). Currently they are working with two local private schools (one an inner city school) to build their music departments.
Sound Investments pays more than music stores and offers immediate cash on the spot for instruments in any condition. The instruments are then repaired and restored, sold, traded or donated. Rob keeps some of them for his collection.
