FARM THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND IMAGES
NOW ON THE MARKET IN BUCKS COUNTY
Addison Wolfe Lists Famed Impression Painter Daniel Garber’s Former Estate
NEW HOPE, Pa., June 9, 2015 – Bordering on iconic, Cuttalossa Farm in Bucks County is arguably the most painted, photographed and sketched property in the county, and possibly the state. Once home to famed impressionist painter Daniel Garber, this 18th century, 10-acre estate is currently listed for sale by Addison Wolfe Real Estate for $2,395,000.
Garber, who lived at Cuttalossa Farm from 1907 until his death in 1958, was renowned as a landscape artist. He painted many of the famous landscapes in Bucks County, including some of Cuttalossa Farm. Garber’s personal studio, which measures approximately 40’ x 60’ and has a number of 12-foot tall arched windows, is where the artist created some of his best-known pieces. His granddaughter, in conjunction with the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, gives talks on her grandfather’s work in the studio four times per year. The current owners also offer tours of the Garber Studio and the property to art students of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where Garber taught for 40 years.
Interestingly, the patriarch of the family that purchased Cuttalossa Farm in 1978 attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and studied Garber’s sketches.
In recent decades, the property has been prominently featured as the backdrop for advertising campaigns for many well-known brands and publications, including Range Rover, Brooks Brothers, Saks Fifth Avenue, National Geographic, Good Housekeeping, LIFE Magazine and others. A charming sheep shed set amid one of the property’s pastures is rumored to be the most photographed single structure in all of Bucks County.
“Stepping onto the property is like taking a journey through time; through history itself,” notes Art Mazzei, owner and partner at Addison Wolfe and listing agent for Cuttalossa Farm. “The serenity of the place is palpable. You can immediately appreciate the inspiration of Garber and countless others who came after him to paint or photograph the landscape.”
The main home measures approximately 3,366 square feet and includes five bedrooms, two and one half baths, large living and family rooms, a formal dining room and well-proportioned kitchen. A stunning solarium features an entire wall of wrought iron and glass with unhindered views of the lawns, waterwheel and sheep shed. A nearby romantic grape arbor – with vines planted by Garber – creates a beautiful setting for large-scale alfresco dining or entertaining with friends and family.
Several other outbuildings dot the landscape. In addition the Garber Studio, a peaceful clapboard cottage, a sheep barn with waterwheel, a sheep shed and several gardens and meandering streams constitute a landscape that has inspired countless artists.
