Style Fall 14
by Donna Dvorak
Fall with its cooler weather and colorful foliage is the time of year most people think about their home’s interior. And classic furniture in various period styles always add elegance to a home and is something that can be passed on from generation to generation. Such finely crafted heirloom quality furniture can be found at Hendrixson’s Furniture stores in both Bucks and Lehigh Counties.
Hendrixson’s quality furniture includes everything includes from Philadelphia Queen Anne to 19th-century American, Colonial Windsor to Norwegian Contemporary, French Country and quality brands like English Hepplewhite, Stickley and other fine names including Kittinger Furniture (which was used in the White House, thanks to former President Nixon) and Kindel Furniture, which can be viewed at Winterthur. They also retail Henkel-Harris, Nichols and Stone, Theodore Alexander, Ralph Lauren and other fine brands. Much more! Hendrixson’s has participated in many designer showcases working with famous organizations. They also carry the Althorp Living History collection from Theodore Alexander. Althorp is the ancestral home of the Spencer family that formerly included the late Princess Diana. Her brother and current Earl, Charles Spencer, has reproduced original pieces and has curated many shows with it.
So knowing all this I had to see for myself and visited the store. Upon entering the showroom, I was immediately taken by the magnificent furniture and the outstanding way it’s displayed. The showroom has four floors in the main building, plus other buildings for different lines. So many fabulous finds all in one place! And, it’s not just fine furniture. The Design Center houses their fabrics, wallpaper books, manufacturer catalogues, area carpets and hanging samples to match various manufacturers’ pieces. They also have seven extremely talented designers who work closely with clients. I felt honored to meet the founders, Paul and Virginia Hendrixson plus their daughter, Lauren Hendrixson who, along with Damian Ford and Jonathan Hendrixson, comprise the family business. Family is important to the Hendrixsons and they enjoy dealing with other family-run businesses.
“Paul and I started in 1967 and have grown through the years,” says Ginny, enthusiastically. “Paul has a furniture background and he will only sell high quality pieces. We still work full time. I come in five days a week and my husband is usually here six days. We are proud because the store has grown in the direction we had planned.
