Core Stix
by Vicky Waite
A good friend of Bill’s who takes his workouts as serious as I do has been telling him for a while to bring me over to check out a piece of some serious equipment called Core Stix. Bill has mentioned it to me from time to time, but the name threw me off and I thought, not so interesting. So, Brandon sends over a photo of this unique piece of fitness equipment
By the looks of it, I am a bit taken back by how challenging it really looked. Now it has my full attention, hook, line, and sinker. We made the arrangement to catch up with Brandon. Bill took me over the very next week. I was very ready and excited to get acquainted with the Core Stix. Brandon was outside not wasting anytime doing some push-ups as we arrived. Like I said, he takes his workouts serious.
We head down to his basement with all his endless gym equipment. Brandon shows me how to work it by introducing me to multiple exercises on the Core Stix. I let Brandon know he can go back doing his pushups because now it’s my turn. I jump on eagerly. It’s not your normal fitness piece but as you get a feel for the Stix and trust them, you can really start to go deeper into each workout!
The Core Stix consists of a stable platform with holes in the sides where various fiberglass sticks can be inserted to assist with the exercises. Each set of sticks has a different thickness and resistance. The thinner the sticks, the more flexible and less resistant they are, and vice versa. One machine with hundreds of workouts makes this Core Stix the real deal. Fully functional exercises for all. From professional athletes to seniors.
I continue to play a bit by doing some standing push-ups, squats, sidestep ups just to get the feel. The Core Stix offers versatility and is so adaptable. If someone is unable to stand the platform is large enough to fit a wheelchair so they can remain seated while using the sticks to work their core which is great. It’s always best to use the thicker sticks for anyone who needs more stability, since the thicker sticks are the harder to bend and provide more support. For example, if someone does a squat, that stick wouldn’t go down as easily. It would provide more solidity and recoil to go upright a lot easier.
I attempt the standing row which is performed by holding the two sticks and pulling them toward me while squeezing my shoulder blades together. Wonderful exercise for posture. I repeat the standing push up, one of my favorites on the Core Stix. To perform the standing push up you hold the two sticks, thick ones in this case, and push your weight forward onto the sticks. The resistance will help rebound you back into an upright position.
There are so many different things you can do with the Core Stix, just so many different realms you can get into. It’s a safe, efficient, compact, and highly effective way to engage not only core muscles, but all major muscle groups as well. There is great use of Core Stik movements make it popular with the Ortho and in euro logic populations. The versatility and adaptability to functional therapists and patients. With Core Stix they are getting patients more upright and getting more core activation without difficulty.
Physical therapy and rehab patient feedback has really been great. They have been able to use it on a wide variety of different patients from low level to post-surgical patients to high level athletes and they’ve all been able to find their own way to make it challenging effectively.
It’s said that the Core Stix is quickly becoming the to go piece of equipment in the physical therapy and wellness clinics. The Core Stix is also used by professional athletic trainers, celebrity trainers, NFL players, NHL players, UFC fighters, Pro boxers, and Olympic athletes to name a few or more than a few! And then we have the group fitness participants who love the engaging routines that tone and sculp their body while they have fun working out with others.
Unlike traditional exercises, Core Stix combines both muscle strengthening and balances. Core Stix is also compact and very portable.
