Dr. Gallant
Orthopaedic surgeon Gregory G. Gallant, M.D. is excited about new upper extremity procedures. He said, “We can now do a joint replacement procedure for the small finger joint.” The replacements are for the second and third knuckle and using a poly carbon mechanical implant designed by someone at the Mayo Clinic. “I have done a lot of these. It is one of my favorite procedures to do because of the positive result.” Another new procedure that Dr. Gallant is excited about is a non-surgical procedure for Dupuytren’s contracture. When someone over 50 has this problem a cord is formed containing excess collagen. Over time the cord thickens and shortens causing the finger to bend toward the palm. Dr. Gallant said, “Now I can inject Xiaflex, an enzyme that breaks down the collagen, directly into the tight cord and overnight it digests the cord. When they come back to my office, I give them a little Novocain and then manipulate the finger and you there is a little snap and it is done, the finger is free. It doesn’t hurt. Other new procedures that Dr. Gallant performs include arthroscopic surgery for small joints, like wrists for healing small fractures and fixing ligament tears. He also can now do and had done elbow replacements and something called a reverse shoulder replacement that is used for people with large rotator cuffs coupled with arthritis. Dr. Gallant has been voted by his peers to twice be listed in Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doctors (2011, 2012), he is a past president of the Pennsylvania State Orthopaedic Society and he is on the Board of Directors at Doylestown Hospital. Doctor Gallant is affiliated with Doylestown Hospital and Abington Memorial Hospital. He is associated with OrthopediCare, which has offices in Doylestown, Chalfont, Willow Grove and Abington.
