I have been gardening in Bucks County since 1964 when I moved here from England and purchased a house in Carversville with two acres of woodland, a stream and a clearing for a vegetable plot. After six years I moved to a sunnier, slightly larger property in Buckingham, also with a stream, and finally acquired historic Cedaridge Farm in 1989, with 20 acres of meadows, stream and woodland to develop as an outdoor studio for my horticultural photography. It also serves as a test garden, not only to test plant varieties, but also to test different gardening techniques, such as irrigation, fertilizing and deer control. Established in 1791 as a Mennonite dairy farm and fruit tree orchard, I have also designed a series of theme gardens connected by a path, including several shade gardens, a bog garden, cutting garden, sunny perennial borders, cottage garden, vegetable garden and orchard.
