A group of us visit Last Chance Ranch. In our group were my wife Vicky and I, our son Bobby, Dr. Christine Davis, and her daughter, Donnamarie Davis, Esq. Christine and Donnamarie, who because of their work with special needs children and their families and their own nonprofit, Peace Valley Holistic Center, wanted as much as I did to tour this unique animal rescue and adoption ranch. Upon arrival, we immediately are impressed by this 35-acre facility in Upper Bucks County. It is a jewel hidden in the Bucks County countryside. Jackie Burke the Executive Director set up our tour.
The facility includes a nice stall barn, indoor riding arena, ample pastures with run-in sheds, fifteen run kennel, small animal room, grooming suite, surgical suite and several meeting rooms that can be used for educational programs and events.
We see horses including George, a blind miniature horse who is up for adoption. George was fostered for special needs kids. Jackie says they have on hand about 150 animals at a time. And, she tells us they are celebrating their 20th Anniversary and they have 40 horses available for adoption at-this-time. They place the LCR brand on each horse so when they are adopted they will have the brand which identifies the horse. They do this so the horse won’t be adopted then sold.
And best of all, it is a no kill farm. Jackie introduced us to Elmo the emu and Peyton the pig. And, she brought out several dogs to visit with us. You could tell how much she enjoys helping animals and finding them caregivers.
Last Chance Ranch gets help from financial support, bequest, and volunteering. To find out more how you can help contact them at 215-538-2520 or visit www.lastchanceranch.org.
