One Stop Shopping in Princeton
Recently my husband and I drove to Palmer Square, in the heart of Princeton, New Jersey. Admittedly, it was our first time there, but it certainly won’t be our last. We met Ron Menapace who, along with his wife, Kristin, owns The Farmhouse Store. Kristin was at home that day with their four young children.
In 2012 Ron and Kristin opened up in Princeton. Ron’s brother Ed opened the original Farmhouse Store in Westfield, New Jersey. It is a family business with other family members involved. In spite of the recession, The Farmhouse Store did remarkably well during its opening year. It was born during the worst storm to ever hit the area. “We opened forty-eight hours before Hurricane Sandy hit,” recalls Ron. “Everyone was without power for a week, but we had power here. We decided to stay open and charged many cell phones and laptops, sold candles and felt honored that we could help our community.” Ron compares that situation to raining on your wedding day—a sign of good luck.
The Farmhouse Store carries an assortment of hand crafted goods from artists around the country. “These are items not found in every store,” says Ron.
