He set out to find a company that could help him replace his shutters, but was not successful. That is when he took it upon himself to create the exterior shutter business.
Whether you are a homeowner, builder, or architect, Timberlane, Inc. has an expert team of customer service representatives and shutter specialists to assist in the production process. Their artisan craftsmen take great pride in their work. “It is not as simple as buying shutters and putting them up on a house. There is a process. We are involved with the customer as much as they want. Our goal is to get a custom specification. The shutters have to suit not just their home, but their style. We strive for the best quality in the best time, typically between six and eight weeks,” Doonan says.
Timberlane, Inc.offers shutters made of wood (Western Red Cedar, Spanish Cedar, or Honduras Mahogany) or maintenance-free manmade synthetic materials. There are four product lines available: sleek Endurian shutters; traditional Premium shutters; classic Advantage shutters; and basic fixed-mount Fundamentals shutters. Once the product line is chosen, it is time to pick a style: panels, louvered, board & batten, Bermuda, manor, or custom. Next, a configuration is selected. Timberlane, Inc. has eight signature configurations. Then it is on to options. There are 100 cut-outs to choose from, along with custom tops, beading, tilt-rods for working louvered shutters, mouse holes for tilt-rods, and rabbeting, a special millwork technique. Hand-forged shutter hardware also is an option. There are hinges, pintles, shutter tiebacks or shutter dogs, shutter locks, pull rings, catches, and latches, to name a few. After the options, it is on to finishing. Exterior shutters can be ordered unfinished, primed, or fully primed and painted. There are 24 standard color options available for the Endurian, Premium, and Advantage lines. Timberlane, Inc. also has a custom color matching process for customers in need of a unique color. The final step is measurements. Proper measuring is very important. Timberlane, Inc. walks customers through this step for shutters, hardware, and radius tops.
Timberlane, Inc. is constantly building new relationships. According to Doonan, they have partnered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Save America’s Treasures program. The company donated operable louvered shutters, functional hardware, and services to the restoration of the Lincoln Cottage, as well as other landmarks across the nation. Timberlane, Inc. also is a member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), and a sponsor of the Traditional Building Conference Series.
