Wiggles
Get Ready to Wiggle!
After 22 years of entertaining children around the world, it’s the beginning of a new era for The Wiggles as they head to North America. The “Taking Off” tour features a brand new lineup for The Wiggles--the first-ever female yellow Wiggle, Emma Watkins; red Wiggle Simon Pryce; founding member Anthony Field, the blue Wiggle; and purple Wiggle Lachlan “Lachy” Gillespie on keyboards.
n less than a month, The Wiggles will start their U.S. tour at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA on August 17, with shows at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The tour will bring The Wiggles to 35 major cities across North America between August and October. “Philadelphia is a fantastic city to start the tour. We recently went to a Phillies baseball game and had a great time. We loved meeting the Phanatic. It is a great place to visit. When we come to Philadelphia, we have to get our cheesesteaks. We also love to get breakfast early in the morning and check out the shops,” says purple Wiggle Lachy.
Lachy started with The Wiggles as Captain Feathersword on the Dorothy the Dinosaur Traveling Show in Australia in 2009. He then joined The Wiggles tour as both a Wiggly Dancer and Wags the Dog. 2013 marks his first year as the official purple Wiggle, taking over for Jeff Fatt who retired last year. Joining The Wiggles will be their Wiggly friends, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, and Henry the Octopus. Fans can expect to hear such Wiggles favorites as “Hot Potato,” “Fruit Salad,” and “Rock-a-Bye Your Bear,” along with several “Taking Off” hits: “Do The Propeller,” “Emma (with the Bow in Her Hair,)” and “Beep! Beep! Buckle Up!”
Along with the release of“Taking Off,” The Wiggles celebrate a new television series that will debut on Sprout on August 19, “Ready, Steady, Wiggle!” In addition, The Wiggles continue with their charitable efforts as new sponsors for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the global leader in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other deadly diseases. Later this year, Wiggles fans can look for the releases of “Furry Tales,” “Wiggly Halloween,” and a Christmas project.
According to Paul Field, Managing Director of The Wiggles, “The Wiggles are all about entertaining children, but also encouraging children to make healthy food choices and getting them active and moving through dance. Generations of children and families have been captivated by The Wiggles’ unique brand of music, fun and learning, and the new members joining Anthony are no exception. Anthony’s university training in Early Childhood Studies informs all of The Wiggles’ work, and Emma, Lachy, and Simon have been mentored over the last year in all of this. Their energy and dedication to the brand is invigorating, and we are especially thrilled to add our “First Lady,” Emma, who literally has been a fan since she was a little girl--it is her dream come true.”
The Wiggles have sold more than 23 million DVDs and videos, 7 million CDs, and 8 million books worldwide and touched the lives of millions of children and families around the world.
