Robert Whitley
Robert Whitley has been a celebrated Bucks County Artist, and leading figure in studio furniture for many years. He first gained recognition in 1966 winning the National Merit Award from the Museum of Contemporary Crafts for his Starfish Desk. Since then Robert Whitley has had two presidential commissions and numerous museum exhibitions in such prestigious venues as the Smithsonian Institution and the American Craft Museum. His work embodies much of beauty, function and grace of early American furniture, while emphasizing the natural strength and character of the woods he uses. And Bob Whitley is still going strong at 89 years of age, restoring antique furniture and making original custom furniture and sculpture. Here he is shown with one of his original Bucks County rockers made of curly maple and walnut. Bob Whitley is located at 6677 Laurel Road, Solebury, PA; 215-297-8452 or visit www.whitleystudio.com.
