Delaware Canal Cleanup
100-200 community volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got dirty on Saturday, April 9, 2022 as they cleaned up the Delaware Canal. This annual event, hosted by the Friends of the Delaware Canal (FODC), took place along the almost 60-mile Delaware Canal. Katie Martens and Gabrielle Lent of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources helped to clear trash, debris, and brush from the historic waterway and towpath, along with many volunteers, at the Bristol Amish Market section of Clean Up Day. Following the Clean Up activities, volunteers met at the Lock Tender House in New Hope for a celebration where Michael Ginder, Executive Director of the FODC, and Brett Webber, Board President of the FODC, thanked everyone for their hard work as they enjoyed light snack and drinks.
About The Friends of the Delaware Canal
The Friends of the Delaware Canal is an independent, not-for-profit organization working to restore, preserve, and improve the Canal and its surroundings. Throughout the Friends’ 40 years, they have accomplished many projects including several authentic Camelback Bridge Restorations, installation of 9/11 Memorial Benches in honor of local victims, installing granite Mile Markers, and so much more. Many of these projects were funded entirely by the Friends members and supporters, and many projects required sweat equity.
