June Maxwell
This still life of pansies is remarkable for the flower that either fell or is clipped and laying by the side of the box. This imperfection within an otherwise perfect world adds more life to the painting and is a theme found in many of June Maxwell’s still lifes. This painting is titled Pansy Flat II and is a pastel on paper, 10 inches by 12 inches. June L. Maxwell received her formal training at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, studying under Paulette van Roekens and Arthur Meltzer and in later years, lessons from Richard Pionk and workshops with Daniel Greene. Having won numerous awards, both locally and in New York, she was invited to lecture and demonstrate at the Salmagundi Club and the Pastel Society of America. She was also an instructor for the P.S.A. National Arts School. In 1997, she was designated a Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America. Her paintings are represented in collections throughout the country. This and other June Maxwell paintings can be found at www.junelmaxwell.com.
