James Redding
James Redding is a popular Bucks County landscape artist. He is currently the artist in residence for Bucks County Magazine, creating all of the original paintings for the cover art. As an artist, he is well known for the painstaking detail and the unmistakable realism found in his depictions of historical landmarks. “I truly enjoy painting these buildings because of the opportunity it affords me to be a part of the conservation of these historical treasures,” says the artist. "When I commit a scene to canvas, it is forever captured at that moment in time.” Redding’s paintings reflect his keen perception of the subject matter he chooses: “I usually research a scene long before I make
The historic building's past fascinated Redding. According to the historical association, in the 1870s the citizens of Yardleyville erected a library building on land donated by the heirs of William Yardley who settled in the area in 1682. This was land purchased from William Penn. The building's style, known as "carpenter" gothic, features a steep gable roof, decorative slate work, and pointed arched windows which resemble a church.
"When I first saw the old library, I was convinced it must have been a church once upon a time," Redding recalls. Since 1977, the Yardley Historical Association has assumed responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the "Old Library" by Lake Afton. It is truly a treasure sitting in the middle of this historic river town.
