Which would you rather do, avoid mild discomfort for a scant 17 hours or the peace of mind that comes from knowing you have taken a major positive step toward maintaining good health? Keep that equation in mind when your physician tells you that it is time for you to have a colonoscopy.
Dr. David Schaffzin, and his associates Drs. Anne-Marie Marcoux, Robert P. Akbari, and Richard S. Goldstein are board certified surgeons who specialize in colon and rectal surgery in their practice at the Center for Colon and Rectal Health in Langhorne. “I always knew that I wanted to be a surgeon,” said Dr. Schaffzin. “But as I was making my way through all the surgical specialties, I discovered I wanted to be in a specialty where I really could fix a medical problem, and my patients would be happy. That led me to where I am now.”
The statistics for colorectal cancer are astounding. It is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths for men in the United States, the fourth for women. According to Dr. Schaffzin, of all the types of cancer, very few are preventable, but colorectal cancer can be for 95 percent of the population who do not have a genetic risk for developing colorectal cancer.
