Lookaway golf
Lookaway Golf Club’s clubhouse, an 18th century Manor House, is the oldest building used as a clubhouse in the United States. Lookaway opened in 1999 on a site that is traced to 1713, when William Penn created the first deed of Buckingham Township. The clubhouse now houses the club’s bar and grille, dining areas, private function rooms and offices. There is also an expansive outdoor terrace for dining that overlooks the 18th green, acclaimed as one of the best finishing holes in the Philadelphia region. The land and colonial era buildings were used for various purposes over the years, including a schoolhouse, estate and dairy farm. The 7,000 square foot clubhouse’s original rustic architecture was retained and restored intact, with its interior’s fireplaces, reuse of the original barn-board flooring accented by the hand-hewn ceilings and roof beams. The comfortable men’s and women’s locker rooms with individual lounge areas are in an adjacent fieldstone structure. Another dairy barn on the property is now home to the club’s golf pro shop. The club's restored original farm buildings form a courtyard with a fieldstone wall that surrounds the clubhouse and creates a warm, inviting enclave of serenity unique to modern golf facilities.
