Wineries
By Melanie Goldenbaum
Besides being known for its beautiful stone farmhouses, Impressionist artists, rolling hills and historic towns, Bucks County is also known for it wine. There are nine wineries on the Bucks County Wine Trail (Buckingham Valley Vineyards, Crossing Vineyards and Winery, New Hope Winery, Peace Valley Winery, Rose Bank Winery, Rushland Ridge Vineyards, Sand Castle Winery, Wycombe Vineyards and Unami Ridge Winery). All of these wineries have produced award-winning wines and have enthusiastic patrons. We would have liked to have featured them all but could not, so we put three in our sampler, Buckingham Valley Vineyards, Rose Bank Winery and Sandcastle Winery. Each of these wineries was picked because of its location in the County.
The history of Bucks County’s vineyards and wineries is as rich as the luscious wines they produce. The growing conditions for grapes in Bucks County rival the best in the world. With moderate temperatures throughout the year, good average monthly rainfall, and fertile soil, the grapes grow in the most natural way and in the best environment.
Make no mistake about it; those who go into the winemaking business love their job. Not just because they have unlimited access to quality wine at any time—though that must be a perk—but because it is usually a dream come true. The owners of these wineries love their job because, to them, making wine isn’t a job, it is a lifestyle—making it, drinking it, talking about it and simply being around wine is their particular passion.
