This summer take a trip back in time to a drive-in movie. Drive-in movie theatres were a family event in the 1950s and ’60s until they began to close and go out of business in the late ’70s. Today we don’t have any left in Bucks County and there are only about 500 left throughout the United States. But, we have two that are in the nearby Lehigh Valley area. One is Becky’s Drive-in Theatre in Walnutport, PA and the other is Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre in Orefield, PA. Going to a drive-in was exciting for the kids. The outdoor large screen was a great family tradition and a favorite spot to take your date. Drive-ins disappeared with the cost of the land, digital film conversion costs and other factors. But, within 30 minutes to an hour drive, depending on where you live, you can take the whole family for a night under the stars, to eat popcorn and watch a movie. Something the kids will never forget. For more information about Becky’s Drive-in, visit www.beckysdi.com or to find out about Shankweiler’s Drive-in, visit www.shankweilers.com.
