In Style spring 2013
by Donna Dvorak
One of life’s perennial pleasures is relaxing outdoors. And now that spring is peeking through the frost, it’s time to think of outdoor spaces where family and friends can congregate. Whether someone is building a new deck, porch, terrace, a driveway, pergola, fire pit or just sprucing up, the first thing to do is to seek expert advice. And Jason Freed, owner of JR Freed Custom Decks and Jason Christman, of Paverscape, Inc., are brimming with extraordinary ideas to make your dreams come true. Both names are synonymous with excellent work, elegance and style, and each emphasizes perfect craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. They both offer a wide range of quality materials, options and accessories.
“When we’re on a job together we suggest many ideas,” says Freed. “We can build a paver patio with a deck on top, or a deck on a second story level, and have steps going down to a paver patio. Anything is possible because people are hiring two professionals. We both own successful businesses apart from each other, yet we offer entire packages together. You can have your outdoor area include ponds, pergolas, fire pits retaining walls, or even wrought iron installation. We’re both highly trained and specialized in our fields so our clients get the best of both worlds. Christman is the best patio and paver guy in the area.”
Both Jasons didn’t know each other before they started working together. Freed met Christman’s wife at a garage sale where she noticed his truck sign. She said that her husband also built custom decks. She called him, the men got together and compared sample books, notes and trusted each other’s work. Because each truly cared about their work and reputations, they referred clients to one another. Then they realized the customer would get the best of both worlds using their combined skills.
“A lot of our work involves timing,” explains Freed. “People call me in March and desire a deck by April or two weeks from the initial phone call. They have to realize that although we can do it, the preparation time is important. We are professionals and do all the design work, estimates, contract writing and procure the permits from municipal buildings, which usually takes two weeks. We first schedule appointments to look at the actual site. Then I create a few drawings for my clients to review. It’s important that we work closely with our clients. That also takes time. During the process I send out a few crews, but I’m onsite most of the time to insure that my clients are getting premium work, exactly what they wanted. Honesty, integrity and determination are a huge part of me. I’m always appreciative of my clients and give 200 percent to exceed their expectations.”
