Owner of Charles Tiles, Inc. Hattie Dorko (right) and her daughter Jessica (left) are a team. They have broken down the workload so that Hattie deals with business and finance issues while Jessica is in charge of design. Hattie explained, “At Charles Tiles every order is a custom order. And our tiles are exclusive in that they are high-end in quality, and we represent manufacturers as a dealer with a territory, so that someone else in the area may not sell their products.
Jessica designed the showroom, which has tile samples and individual vignettes displayed so that the client can see what a finished product looks like. Jessica, who has a degree in interior design from the Philadelphia Institute of Art, will come to a client’s house and work together with a client, do drawings and put together a package. Often the first visit is to the showroom where the client can see various vignettes and find tiles they like. Jessica is right there throughout the whole process. Her interior design background allows her to show clients ways that they can coordinate a project with the rest of the house.
