Tyler Mansion
On Monday, April 17th, the Newtown Historic Association and Bucks County Community College Foundation will jointly present a special program from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Zlock Performing Arts Center at Bucks County Community College, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
The keynote lecture will be presented by Daniel Tyler grandson of George and Stella Tyler, retired professor of history at Colorado State University and author of “Bucks County’s Benevolent Squire: In Search of George Frederick Tyler.” Mr. Tyler will show how his grandfather and grandmother, Stella Elkins, managed to represent the class of "Perennial Philadelphians" into which they were born, while at the same time using their talents and inherited wealth to benefit society.
In addition, Matthew Metcalf, Coordinator of Historic Preservation at Bucks County Community College, will provide an informative overview of the architectural history of the Tyler mansion.
After the lecture, attendees will be provided with a private, behind the scenes tour of the Tyler mansion. Attendees will see rooms that are generally off limits to the public, such as Stella's bedroom, George's study, and the Pub.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the BCCC website, www.bucks.edu/tickets/.
